IBDP SUBJECT SELECTION

STUDENTS REGISTER FOR EITHER THE IB DIPLOMA OR THE COURSE

The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE). Completion of the six subjects and the Core requirement contribute to the award of an IB Diploma.

IB allows you to take 6 subjects, with a minimum of 3 Higher Level (primarily focused towards your career choice) and 3 Standard Level (to keep further related options open). Learners must take one from Group 1-6 or may substitute one from Group 6 with a second subject from any other group.

Not all students choose to take the full course load leading to a diploma. Instead, some students choose to take DP subjects only in areas where they have a particular interest or strength. Individual Subject Certificates are awarded on a course-by-course basis to students who choose not to do the full programme. Students who satisfactorily complete a DP course earn a certificate in that subject.
